Health stuff worth buying after 35 in India — tests first, gadgets second

When people in India cross 35, usually two things often happen. An uncle starts talking about blood pressure. Someone in the family does a full body checkup at Thyrocare or Dr Lal, and the printout has a yellow or red mark.

Doctors writing say a simple thing: check blood pressure and blood sugar even if you feel fine. Indian health pages list the same tests again and again — HbA1c, cholesterol, thyroid, vitamin D, liver and kidney. Pharmacies sell more glucometers and BP machines than they did five years ago. That is the real after-35 market. Not a juice extractor.

This page is the extra cupboard for that decade. Everyday things like sunscreen, ORS and toothpaste are already on our daily health page. Copper water bottles have their own page. If someone at home snores loudly and stops breathing, that is the snoring page, not this list.

Tests first. Then a BP machine. Then the rest.

After 35 in India, doctors ask for blood pressure and sugar even when you feel fine. Start with a lab package. Keep a few tools at home. Do not start with a snore clip or a juicer.

Those have other pages on this site. They are not the first 35+ kit.

First step: one lab file, not ten bottles

Before you open Amazon, book a package at a NABL lab (Thyrocare, Dr Lal, Metropolis, Healthians, or your city hospital). Home collection is common now.

A useful package after 35 usually has:

Full lipid profileCholesterol and triglyceridesRs 300 to 600

ECGSimple heart electrical baselineRs 200 to 800

A full package is often Rs 1,500 to 4,500. That is cheaper than a year of random supplements.

Women should also ask their gynaecologist about Pap / HPV timing and a breast exam. Men with a family heart history should ask if an ECG or more heart tests are needed. This page cannot replace that visit.

What to keep at home

Think in three layers. Layer 1 is for almost every house. Layer 2 is only after a doctor or a lab report says you need it. Layer 3 is movement and comfort, not medicine.

A week that is easy to follow

  • Monday and Thursday evening: use the BP machine, take two readings, write them down.
  • Sunday morning: stand on the scale once.
  • Once a year: lab package.
  • If the doctor asked for sugar checks: two morning readings that week.
  • Most days: walk, water, sleep, and the sunscreen from the daily-kit page.

That is enough. You do not need a long morning ritual.
