Best RuPay Credit Cards for UPI Payments India 2026
If you pay by scanning a QR code, Visa and Mastercard still cannot sit on UPI. Only a RuPay credit card can be linked to Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, CRED or CheQ, so the same kirana scan can earn cashback or points and still give you 20–45 days of interest-free credit.
That is why the best RuPay credit cards for UPI payments in 2026 are no longer a niche product. NPCI’s RuPay Credit Card on UPI rail is live at 23 banks. The product is infrastructure now. What changed this year is not “can I pay?” — it is how caps work. Axis SuperMoney dropped its old ₹500 monthly ceiling on 1 January 2026 and replaced it with a pairing rule. Kiwi still pays the cleanest scan-and-pay cashback if you understand Neon. Tata Neu still wins if BigBasket and Croma already take a large share of the month.
This guide is written for September 2026. Verify live MITC before you apply.
Why RuPay on UPI still matters in 2026
Debit UPI is free and everywhere. It does not build a credit file and almost never pays rewards. A RuPay credit card on UPI keeps the same QR flow and adds three things debit cannot:
- An interest-free period on grocery, dining and many merchant QR spends.
- Rewards on scan-and-pay. Visa and Mastercard UPI still cannot earn under current NPCI rules.
- Zero MDR for the merchant, so small shops accept it like a savings-account UPI.
The mistake most comparison pages still make is quoting the headline rate and ignoring three 2026 rules:
- App lock-in (3% only inside SuperMoney or Tata Neu UPI ID).
- Pairing / milestone caps (SuperMoney’s 3% cannot exceed your 1% bucket; Kiwi’s monthly cashback is 1% of limit).
- MCC exclusions (rent, fuel, wallet load, insurance, education, jewellery, government, many utilities).
What changed in 2026
Axis SuperMoney (1 January 2026). The flat ₹500-per-cycle cap is gone. 1% cashback on other eligible UPI and non-UPI spends is now unlimited. 3% on SuperMoney-app UPI is capped at the 1% cashback you earned from other spends in the same cycle. If that 1% bucket is under ₹100, SuperMoney UPI cashback is restricted to ₹100. Transactions below ₹100 earn nothing.
Kiwi Neon maths is now clear. Card is lifetime free. Base scan-and-pay is about 1.5%. Neon costs ₹999 + GST (~₹1,179). Neon lifts scan-and-pay to 2%, then 3% / 4% / 5% at ₹50,000 / ₹1 lakh / ₹1.5 lakh eligible annual spend. Monthly regular cashback is capped at 1% of credit limit. Milestone cashback sits outside that monthly cap. Fuel, utilities, telecom, rent, insurance, education, jewellery and government MCCs usually do not count.
CheQ UPI (August 2026). A new UPI app lets eligible RuPay credit cards earn up to 2.5% on qualifying CheQ UPI transactions. Treat it as an extra rail, not a replacement for your primary card programme.
NeuCoins expiry. Tata Neu Infinity reviewers flagged 12-month expiry on NeuCoins from late 2025. Redeem inside the Tata app; do not hoard.
Bank coverage. 23 issuers are live, including HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, Yes, IndusInd, IDFC FIRST, Federal, RBL, CSB, SBI Cards, PNB, Union, Canara, Indian Bank, BoB, IOB, AU SFB, Utkarsh, ESAF, SBM, Saraswat and City Union Bank.
Benefits of a RuPay UPI credit card in 2026
- Same QR as debit UPI, credit limit behind it.
- Rewards on kirana, dining and app checkouts that a Visa swipe never sees at those merchants.
- Credit-score building if you pay in full.
- Contactless chip still works at POS. JCB acceptance on some RuPay cards helps on selected overseas networks; forex markup still applies unless you hold a zero-forex RuPay travel card.
- EMI conversion on eligible UPI purchases is available in some apps from transaction history.
What it does not do. P2P to friends is usually blocked or treated as cash-like. Rent and wallet loads are almost never rewarded. Acceptance abroad is narrower than Visa or Mastercard.

Detailed reviews
1. Kiwi RuPay — best dedicated UPI cashback card in 2026
Issued as a virtual Yes Bank (Klick) or partner-bank RuPay card through the Kiwi app. Lifetime free. Base: about 1.5% on UPI scan-and-pay, 0.5% on online redirects. Cashback lands as Kiwis (1 Kiwi = ₹0.25) and can be withdrawn to a bank account after a minimum balance.
Neon (optional, ₹999 + GST). Scan-and-pay moves to 2%. Eligible annual Kiwi-app spend then lifts the effective rate to 3% at ₹50,000, 4% at ₹1 lakh and 5% at ₹1.5 lakh, with up to three domestic lounge passes. Neon only pays if you actually cross those milestones; below ~₹50,000 eligible spend the fee can wipe the gain.
Who it suits: People whose month is kirana, restaurants and QR, not rent and electricity.
Watch-outs: Monthly regular cashback capped at 1% of credit limit. A ₹50,000 limit means ₹500 max regular cashback that month. Fuel, utilities, telecom, rent, insurance, education, jewellery and government spends are typically excluded.
2. Axis SuperMoney RuPay — best no-fee card if you split spends
Lifetime free. Invite / app-led issuance. Fuel surcharge waiver of 1% on ₹400–₹4,000 (up to ₹400 a month on some pages).
Post-January 2026 rules (this is the version that matters now):
- 3% cashback on QR / UPI done through the super.money app.
- 1% unlimited cashback on other eligible UPI (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm) and non-UPI spends.
- The 3% amount cannot exceed the 1% cashback earned in the same cycle.
- If the 1% bucket is under ₹100, SuperMoney UPI cashback is capped at ₹100.
- Spends below ₹100 earn zero.
Worked example. ₹10,000 on SuperMoney UPI (would be ₹300 at 3%) plus ₹9,000 other eligible spend (₹90 at 1%). The 3% bucket is cut to ₹100. Total cashback ≈ ₹190, not ₹390. To unlock real 3%, you need a meaningful 1% spend base in the same month.
Who it suits: Users willing to put some shopping or non-SuperMoney UPI on the same card so the 1% bucket opens the 3% tap.
Watch-outs: Paying everything only inside SuperMoney, with almost no other eligible spend, now under-earns. Exclusions include repayments, fuel, jewellery, cash, wallet load, insurance, education, government, rent and EMI.
3. Tata Neu Infinity RuPay (HDFC or SBI) — best if Tata is already your mall
Fee ₹1,499 + GST, waived around ₹3 lakh annual spend. Welcome NeuCoins usually match the fee if you pay it and transact within 30 days.
UPI is not one rate. Paying with the Tata Neu UPI ID can reach 1.5% NeuCoins. The same QR on Google Pay or PhonePe is often 0.5%. UPI NeuCoins cap at 500 per calendar month (₹500 value, because 1 NeuCoin = ₹1 on Tata Neu). Tata brands plus NeuPass can still print 5–10% on BigBasket, Croma, Air India Express and selected categories. Lounge quota is the premium extra (domestic visits on spend milestones; some international via RuPay).
Who it suits: Households already inside Tata Neu.
Watch-outs: Coins redeem only in the Tata world. Expiry tightened. Fee is wasted if you only wanted generic UPI cashback.
4. Tata Neu Plus RuPay — cheaper Tata on-ramp
Fee ₹499 + GST, waived around ₹1 lakh. UPI via Tata Neu UPI ID about 1%; other apps about 0.25%. Same 500 NeuCoins monthly UPI cap. Four domestic lounges a year appear on some versions after quarterly spend. Better first Tata card than Infinity if your Tata spend is real but not huge.
5. HDFC Bank UPI RuPay — low-fee category card
A dedicated / virtual HDFC RuPay product for daily digital spend. Typical 2026 structure: 3% CashPoints on groceries, supermarket, dining and PayZapp; 2% utilities; 1% other eligible (often above ₹100). CashPoints convert near ₹0.25, so the 3% headline is closer to 0.75% cash. Fee is low (₹99 on some offers, higher on others) and waived on modest annual spend. Category caps apply.
Who it suits: Existing HDFC customers who want a cheap second card for kirana and dining UPI.
Watch-outs: Rent, wallet, EMI, fuel, insurance and government are usually out.
6. SBI SimplySAVE UPI RuPay — best plain first card
Fee ₹499, waived on ₹1 lakh annual spend. Welcome 2,000 reward points (about ₹500) after ₹2,000 spend in 60 days. 10 points per ₹150 on dining, movies, departmental stores and grocery (~1.7% at 4 points = ₹1). Other spends 1 point per ₹150 (~0.17%). 1% fuel surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹3,000, max ₹100 per cycle. Links to any major UPI app.
Who it suits: First-time SBI Card users whose UPI is grocery and eating out.
Watch-outs: Do not buy this for raw UPI cashback. Kiwi or SuperMoney beat it on generic QR.
7–10. When a specialist card wins
- Jupiter Edge+ CSB RuPay: Lifetime-free shopping-brand cashback (up to 10% listed brands, ~1% else). Use if Jupiter is already your bank app.
- Scapia Federal RuPay: Lifetime free, 0% forex, lounge after a monthly spend cycle. UPI is a side benefit (~1% with a minimum ticket on many versions). Pick it for travel, not for kirana yield.
- IDFC FIRST Digital RuPay: Add-on for existing IDFC FIRST cards. 3X points on UPI of ₹2,000+. EA₹N is the FD-backed starter if income proof is thin; in-app UPI cashback beats third-party apps.
- Slice UPI: Lifetime free, student-friendly (18+ on some versions), 1–2% with brand weeks. PhonePe HDFC Ultimo: pay ₹999 only if PhonePe already runs bills, travel and QR.
How to choose in 2026
| If you… | Start with |
|---|---|
| Scan QR all day and want cash in the bank | Kiwi (add Neon only if eligible spend will cross ₹50,000+) |
| Want zero fee and will split spends | Axis SuperMoney |
| Already shop Tata | Infinity if fee clears; otherwise Plus |
| Need a ₹99–₹499 HDFC/SBI daily card | HDFC UPI RuPay or SBI SimplySAVE |
| Have no income proof | IDFC EA₹N (FD) or a secured SuperMoney variant where offered |
| Fly more than you scan | Scapia or a Magnus / Infinity RuPay, not a cashback UPI card |
| Live inside PhonePe | Ultimo, not a generic 1% card |
RuPay vs Visa is not a holy war. Hold RuPay for QR. Hold Visa or Mastercard for overseas acceptance and some hotel programmes.
How to link a RuPay credit card to UPI in 2026
Mobile number on the card must match the UPI app. Only RuPay works.
- Open GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, CRED, Tata Neu, SuperMoney, Kiwi or CheQ.
- Open Payment methods / Bank accounts / Credit cards.
- Add RuPay credit card and pick the issuer.
- Confirm last six digits and expiry; complete OTP.
- Set a separate UPI PIN for the credit card. Do not reuse the debit UPI PIN.
- Scan the merchant QR, select the RuPay credit account, enter the credit UPI PIN.
NPCI still advises a distinct PIN. EMI conversion, where live, sits in the app’s transaction history.
FAQs (2026)
Which RuPay card pays the most on UPI right now?
Kiwi Neon at the ₹1.5 lakh milestone is the highest eligible-scan rate. SuperMoney is the highest no-fee rate if you also generate a 1% bucket. Infinity is the highest Tata rate, not the highest generic QR rate.
Did SuperMoney remove the ₹500 cap?
Yes, from 1 January 2026. The new limit is the pairing rule described above.
Can I link this card on Google Pay?
Yes, if the issuer is one of the 23 live banks and the product is RuPay.
Is there a lifetime-free RuPay UPI card?
Kiwi base, SuperMoney, Scapia, Slice and several AU / Yes products.
Do I earn on rent, electricity or FASTag via UPI?
Usually no. Assume excluded unless the MITC names that MCC.
Is CheQ UPI worth switching for?
Only as a second rail for the 2.5% promo on eligible merchants. Do not rebuild your whole stack around one new app until the offer is proven in your own statements.
Conclusion
In 2026 the best RuPay credit card for UPI is the one whose cap you will not hit and whose app you will actually open.
- Scan-first cashback → Kiwi
- Zero fee, mixed month → Axis SuperMoney (respect the new 1% pairing rule)
- Tata household → Neu Infinity or Plus, RuPay variant
- Simple bank card → HDFC UPI RuPay or SBI SimplySAVE UPI
Link it, use a distinct PIN, pay the bill in full, and re-read the MITC every January. That is when these programmes now change.
Educational content only. Not an offer of credit. Fees, rewards, caps and UPI eligibility are set by the issuer and NPCI and change without notice. Check the live card page before you apply.
