Health note. Storing plain water in copper overnight is a traditional Indian practice (tamra jal). It is not a treatment for disease. What copper is good for — and what it is not

The category is full of copper-plated steel sold as “100% pure copper.”
- Look inside the mouth in daylight. Real copper is the same warm reddish metal inside. Silver, grey or white means tin lining or a steel body. A lined interior also kills the tamra-jal point.
- Real unlacquered copper darkens and spots within days. That oxidation is the authenticity tell, not a defect.
- A brassy yellow often means brass (copper + zinc), not pure copper.
- Magnet: copper is not magnetic. A strong stick suggests a steel core.
- Weight: a 900–1000 ml bottle that feels like a cola can is suspicious.
